Reasons why I'm Really Excited to be Back Home:list )

So I'm at home. Yesterday wasn't too terrible. Mother tried to have a "So......... are you still emo?" conversation with me, but the car ride was ok besides that, much thanks to The Baseballs and Boston. ("Don't Look Back" and "Peace of Mind" particularly, both appropriate and amazing.) I went to [info]chiweforkgun's and we went to see her sister and Paula in the NJ Greater Youth Orchestra, which was great. (Grieg, Holst, Tchaikovsky, Elgar... great programme.) Then we watched Branaugh's Hamlet and I stayed over and we went to bed at like 3am hah. And yeah, in terms of cast/acting only (SUCH BEAUTIFUL CINEMATOGRAPHY), I like SPT like 95% more than Branaugh... my two exceptions being Osric (because I love Robin Williams) and Hamlet (because Branaugh's crazy!Hamlet is hilarious and I enjoy that, esp in the "fishmonger" and "where is polonius" scenes). (Not to say that Rachael and Kathy aren't as good, 'cause they def. are, they're all just very different interpretations and I like them all.)

This afternoon, my mother and I had the first of what I'm sure will be several Talks ). Maybe I should write her a letter after all? Not sure at all how to write it. Fuck. Can't she just..... go away?

I'm just hoping I end up being able to do all that I'm planning to do over break. (All I'm reading, plus fanfics, plus other things, plus I still wanna do nanowrimo work...)

I realized that, given the work I still need to do and the doctor's appointments I need to go to (thanks, Shobhi, for calling me to make sure I made one! -___-), I realized that I probably will not be able to go to Haverford to drop off my exam until after the time it's due (which... I don't know, actually. I should probs ask). I'm trying to decide whether I should email him to let him know that, even though I'm handing it in late, I did finish it before it was due, etc, and, obviously since the paper I'm in the middle of writing is about Hamlet (and Richard III), my mind did this:

To awkwardly email or not to awkwardly email - that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler for my grade to suffer
The slings and arrows of handing in late work,
Or to take arms against strange social practices
And, by opposing, get a good grade.

And that's as far as I got before I lol-ed and decided I should write it down because I am totes Samuel Taylor Coleridge...

Also, what I watched today:
-Supernatural "Sin City" - German dub (hilarious)
-Star Trek: Voyager "Riddles," "Virtuoso"
-Big Bang Theory "The Peanut Reaction," "The Tangerine Factor," "The Bad Fish Paradigm"
-Airplane!

It is out of my hands
My application has officially gone in to SOPHAS and I have dropped, what is really way too much money to have my shit sent out to
1. Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine
this is where I really want to go, Professor Foppa is like, everything I want in an advisor. He is Swiss! and adorable! and friendly! and has an MD and some other degree from Switzerland as well as his MPH and PhD! He specializes in biostatistical computational models of vector-borne diseases! he could not be more perfect if he tried.
The other professors are cool too but they all mostly focus on cardiovascular disease...
so if I went here not only would my ENTIRE family be deliriously happy because I would finally be close to them but I would get to study under people with my exact research interests, and eat like metric shittons of po'boys. THE FOOD, THE FOOD WOULD BE DELICIOUS.

2. Emory
if i went here i could get an internship at the CDC which would be good for reasons of getting jobs later
and i could probably hang out and like, go drag racing with my cousin. or whatever it is he gets up to studying rocks in georgia.

3. Boston University
well my fiancée would be happy to live in Boston, and my best friend would be happy to have me closer but um...that's all i gotta say

4. Yale
The program specializes in microbial epi, which is cool and interesting. my fiancée's mom would be happy? i'd be close to my best friends house and could probably go bother her mom and her very stupid but very cute dogs on alternate weekends? i dunno, all my excitement is stuck in the south

of course if i get in anywhere (or get a scholarship anywhere) i will be v.v. happy

we shall see what happens!

also interesting note, my spell check recognizes fiancée as a word and fiancé's but not fiancée's, which would imply that...Opera does not recognize the right of women to own property? or something.
